FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Alena Lunin ice skates professionally, but she misses getting on the ice at Headwaters Park, luckily she won't have to wait much longer.
"I think it is extremely important for the local community to go and do something with their family because looking at it, they are missing so much. They are missing camps. They are missing a lot of activities and to have something outdoors for fun that would be great," Lunin said.

SPECIAL SECTION: FOX 55 Coronavirus Pandemic Coverage
Starting at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21 people can return to the ice with restrictions.
Because of the pandemic, skaters will be limited to 50% capacity and face coverings will be required.
With help from the Downtown Improvement District providing $10,000, and guidance from the Allen County Health Department the opening is happening.
Executive Director Geoff Paddock said, however, beating the record of 35,000 skaters will not be happening.
"COVID-19 really took a hit on all of us. We want to make sure we have a safe place, a family-friendly place, and that's why we will be limiting attendance, so we will see a drop in revenue. We are hopeful we will be able to get through another season," Paddock explained.
Downtown Improvement District President Michael Galbraith said they're just happy to fill in the gap.
"This is one of those things that we can help them with. Normally we would be a sponsor for other things like the Three Rivers Festival that didn't happen this year. We want to make sure Headwater's Park survives the COVID crisis," Michael Galbraith, President of the Downtown Improvement District said.
Sanitization stations will be throughout the facility, and if you don't feel comfortable renting skates, you can bring your own.
The indoor concessions stand will be operated by Mr. G’s at the Rink, offering soup, sandwiches, cold, and hot drinks.
Hours of operation are:
- 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday
- Noon to 10 p.m. on Friday
- Noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday
- Noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday
There will also be extended holiday hours.
The rink is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Hours are subject to change due to the pandemic situation.
The rink will be open from Nov. 21, 2020 until Feb. 28, 2021.
