HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WFFT) - A Hartford City man died Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Huntington County.

Police say Donald R. Thomas, 67, was northbound on SR 3 approaching Shafer Road when for an unknown reason, his 1997 Dodge pickup truck went off the left side of the roadway, impacting a drain culvert.

After striking the culvert, the pickup truck continued to the opposite side, coming to rest in the grass.

A Wells County Sheriff's Department deputy witnessed the crash.

The deputy was dispatched to the area in reference to a slow moving vehicle, which was the vehicle Thomas was driving.

Attempts to stop Thomas at the slow speed failed.

Deputies removed Thomas from the vehicle and began CPR until EMS arrived. Thomas died at the scene.

Investigators believe Thomas may have experienced a medical incident.

An autopsy is pending at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
