MATTHEWS, Ind. (WFFT) -- A Grant County woman is dead after police say the family dog attacked her after she fell on the floor.
Grant County Sheriff's deputies and Matthews Police officers responded to home on the 300 block of High Street on Monday around 2:15 p.m.
Investigators say 69-year-old Kathleen Bartram was in the living room with her daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter when she sat in an uneven chair and fell to the floor.
When Bartram's granddaughter started crying, police say the pit bull charged into the room and attacked Bartram.
Authorities say she was bleeding from both sides of her neck when they arrived.
Paramedics pronounced Bartram dead at the scene.
Police say the dog was taken to Marion Animal Care and Control.
