FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - The Bowen Recovery Center is getting ready to open.

But before they do governor Eric Holcomb paid a visit.

The governor is passionate about opioid treatment programs here in the Hoosier state.

"We have so much more work to do, and we will do that," Holcomb said. "We will do that work. And just right here knowing that Allen County had a record number of overdose poisons, that's a record that we just simply can't break again."

The center will help people with their addiction to opioids.

They'll provide things like methadone medicine to help treat patients.

Bowen Recovery Center medical director Carolyn Warner Greer says she thinks the community will benefit from how quickly they'll be able to help.

"We're presenting treatment that is immediacy in its impact," Warner Greer said. "So say if somebody has a non-fatal overdose in the emergency department our emergency medicine physicians know they can send someone over we're going to see them that day. We might even see them right from the emergency department."

The treatment program also has support from local government.

Mayor Tom Henry saying he hears about the opioid epidemic here in the city.

He applauds the Bowen Center for opening this program and working to help the people of the greater Fort Wayne area.

"With the opioid crisis in this community and throughout the state and this country those organizations that have the ability to step up and say we're in the position we can try and help I think is a magnificent statement," Henry said.

The Bowen Recovery Center officially opens at 5 a.m. on June 14.
