FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Nonprofits across Indiana are receiving help from hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations.
"Giving Tuesday", usually held in November, was bumped up to "Giving Tuesday Now" to help those struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We totaled over $1.7 million in requests so we know the need was there," says Alison Gerardot with the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. "It helped to show it was there."
The Foundation heard from 120 nonprofits during the application period, and the total number requested reflected the need, including from places like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana.
"The big corporations aren't ready to give because they're figuring things out and the smaller donors aren't ready to give either because they are thinking three to six months out," says Eli Rider with BBBS.
He says the money raised will help with payroll expenses and keeping the daily operation of BBBS going.
