FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Allen County Department of Health ordered a restaurant to temporarily shut down a business and warned another about following Governor Eric Holcomb's COVID-19 reopening executive orders.
On June 23, ACDH said they received a complaint about Fujiyama Buffet at 285 E. Coliseum Blvd. "allowing consumer self-service despite the Governor's Executive Order not allowing it at this time due to COVID."
The department said Fujiyama was given 24 hours to comply with the order.
On June 24 when ACDH went to do a follow-up inspection, the inspector reported they "observed several employees available to serve customers food from the buffet. Observed a sign stating that the establishment is only allowing five customers at a time in the buffet area. Observed a customer order food 'to go' and the person in charge tell the customer that an employee must serve it for her. Did not observe any customers serve themselves at the time of inspection."
On Monday, July 6, ACDH said they received an additional complaint about Fujiyama Buffet again allowing self-service at their buffet. On Monday's complaint inspection, Fujiyama was "issued a cease and desist order and was given 24 hours to comply."
On Tuesday, the department went to do a follow-up inspection.
The inspector reported that they "observed a customer serve themselves. Observed a sign asking customers to wear gloves before using tongs."
Following the inspection, Fujiyama was given a cease and desist order that was posted on the front door of the business by ACDH.
The buffet reopened Wednesday with the order removed.
The health department also received a complaint about Mitchell's Sport & Neighborhood Grill at 6179 W. Jefferson Blvd. on June 22 after someone reported that employees were not wearing face coverings.
The Department of Health says they issued "a verbal order to comply with the provisions of Executive Order 20-32, including the provision requiring all restaurant employees to wear face coverings."
An inspector for the department said when they arrived the following day at Mitchell's all employees were observed wearing face coverings.
