FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — A truck traveling across the country with fresh fruit made a stop in Fort Wayne Sunday morning as a part of its Indiana run.
The South Dakota trailer truck spent an hour selling fruit in the Darlington Holiday Warehouse parking lot on Coliseum Boulevard.
Salesperson Jack Fonder says people are typically excited when the truck comes to their town since the fruit they deliver is fresher than what most groceries sell.
This trip through Indiana features peaches from Georgia as well as cherries and nectarines from Washington.
“All of the produce is taken, it’s picked at the orchard and loaded directly onto the truck and then brought right to the customer," Fonder said. "So we don’t store it anywhere. We don’t put anything on it to make it last longer, to make it shelf-stable. So it’s just basically to get fresh fruit from the orchard to the customer.”
Fonder says the fruit truck will be back in Fort Wayne sometime in August, though they don’t have an exact date set.
The fruit truck updates its delivery schedule on its website.
