FORT WAYNE, IN (WFFT) -- The owner of a Fort Wayne restaurant denies posting racist tweets about Fox News commentator Juan Williams in response to a tweet by President Donald Trump calling Williams “nasty and wrong” and “pathetic.”
Kari Ruble, the owner of Kari’s Family Dining on East Dupont Road, told FOX 55 News that someone else must have used her phone to repeatedly tweet “He’s a f***** n*****” from her public @justcallmekari Twitter account on Sunday.
Ruble told Fox 55 News Tuesday that she often leaves her phone lying around the restaurant as she works, and that it’s possible anyone could have written the tweets because she did not have a password set up on her phone.
“I am adamantly stating that I would never say something like that and due to my negligence of laying my phone down at work someone was able to use my phone,” Ruble said.
The tweets were replies to a Donald Trump tweet on Sunday that said, “Juan Williams at @FoxNews is so pathetic, and yet when he met me in the Fox Building lobby, he couldn’t have been nicer as he asked me to take a picture of him and me for his family. Yet he is always nasty and wrong.”
Multiple Twitter users screen grabbed the racist tweet from Ruble’s account and shared it with captions such as “Where not to eat in Fort Wayne, Indiana” and “Here’s a restaurant to avoid.”
FOX 55 News visited the restaurant as it was closing Tuesday and showed Ruble the tweets. She picked up her phone in front of our crew and said she was surprised to find the tweets on her account. She also demonstrated how she didn’t have a password set up, which would allow anyone access to her apps.
Ruble, who declined to speak on camera, acknowledged posting other tweets around the same time praising the president but pointed to hand-carved Christian statues on her wall as evidence she wouldn’t spread hate.
She also urged a reporter to talk to two employees who told us the tweets didn’t reflect the Kari Ruble they knew.
Ruble deleted some of the tweets in front of the FOX 55 crew and talked about deleting the entire account out of concern for what else may have been tweeted without her knowledge. The account has since been deleted.
A Fox 55 reporter showed Ruble how to password-protect her phone before leaving.
