Fort Wayne police arrest 4 in Spring and Stophlet Street drug raids

Detectives received confidential tip information on 1611 Spring Street and started an investigation into narcotics dealing.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Fort Wayne Police Department Vice and Narcotics Division served two search warrants Thursday morning

FWPD served their first search warrant at 1611 Spring St.

Those arrested at 1611 Spring St. were:

SUSPECT 1: 36-year-old James R. Martz Sr.

CHARGES:

  • Dealing Methamphetamine (4 counts) Level 4 Felony
  • Dealing Cocaine or Narcotic Drug (Heroin) (1 count) Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine (1 count) Level 6 Felony
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance (1 count) Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of Paraphernalia (1 count) A-Misdemeanor

SUSPECT 2: 36-year-old Aaron S. Stefanski

CHARGES:

  • Dealing Methamphetamine (1 count) Level 2 Felony
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance (1 count) Level 6 Felony
  • Dealing Marijuana (1 count) A-Misdemeanor

Those arrested at 1101 Stophlet St. were:

SUSPECT 1: 35-year-old Shane A McLaughlin

CHARGES:

  • Possession of a Firearm Without a Permit (1 count) Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of Controlled Substance (2 counts) Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of Cocaine or Narcotic Drug (1 Count) Level 6 Felony
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Batterer (1 count) A-Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Marijuana (1 count) A-Misdemeanor
  • Outstanding Warrant-Failure to Return to Lawful Detention

SUSPECT 2: 43-year-old Kimberly Fields

CHARGES:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine (1 count) Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of Cocaine or Narcotic Drug (1 count) Level 6 Felony
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance (1 count) Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of Paraphernalia (1 count) C-Misdemeanor

Detectives say they received confidential tip information about the Spring Street house and started an investigation into drug dealing.

During the search warrant on Spring Street, police say there were seven adults and two children present in the house at the time of the raid.

Two men were arrested during the first raid on several charges.

The other five adults were detained until a thorough search of the house was completed and were later released.

The Indiana Department of Child Services was called to remove the two children from this situation, along with three other children that were at school at the time of the raid.

There were four dogs and five cats that were removed by Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control.

Police say the house was found to be in very unsanitary and unsafe conditions.

Neighborhood Code condemned the house for numerous reasons.

Items at the house seized by police were:

  • 10.7 grams of meth
  • 0.4 grams of fentanyl
  • 11.2 grams of marijuana
  • Several pieces of drug paraphernalia
  • Multiple digital scales
  • One Highpoint .380 pistol

While doing surveillance on this house police say it was connected to a house on Stophlet Street.

On Thursday, FWPD served a second search warrant at 1101 Stophlet St. in connection to the Spring Street raid.

During the search warrant on Stophlet Street, there were two people present in the house at the time of the raid.

They were both arrested.

Items at the house seized by police were:

  • Two semi-automatic pistols
  • One revolver
  • 18.2 grams of marijuana
  • Several opioid-related pills
  • Multiple boxes of live ammunition
  • A drug ledger
  • Multiple scales
  • Drug paraphernalia that tested positive for meth
  • $2,800 in cash
