FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - A young woman's family is left picking up the pieces after she was shot to death at a motel on Goshen Avenue in Fort Wayne.
Nineteen-year-old Angel May Carter was shot to death at the Rodeway Inn Sunday morning.
FWPD Person Of Interest: Thomas Jackson
Her mother Dawn and grandmother Joan said it's nothing short of living a nightmare.
Police are searching for 40-year-old Thomas Jermaine Jackson who they have identified as a "person of interest" in the shooting.
Investigators said Jackson, who has not been charged, was in the room next to Angel's.
Her mother said she tried to keep Angel away from him.
"She was a fun loving person. She loved hunting. She loved fishing. She loved the outdoors and he stole that from us. He stole that from her dad. He stole that from everyone in our family and he needs to pay for what he's done to my baby," Angel’s mother Dawn Hipshire added.
While hoping for justice, they are also trying to give Angel the proper goodbye, but the money they need to bury her, they don't have.
"I am 78 years old. She was not supposed to go before me, so I donated my plot to her, so she can rest in peace with God," Grandmother Joan Korn said.
The family said they need a little over $7,200 dollars for the funeral.
Neither parents had a life insurance policy so in the meantime, a Go Fund Me is set up and they're looking at fundraising options.
"We all need help. Please help us. I can't do no more. I can't," Korn added.
