FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Dennis Harmon was walking along Third Street Tuesday when he was met with sirens, flashing lights and a line of police cars.
“I seen squad cars coming down the street,” Harmon said.
But that’s not all he saw.
"A body. It was covered in blood and when I got down there they started taping it off and I couldn’t go any farther,” he said.
Fort Wayne police say officers responded to the 800 block of Third Street at around 5:13 p.m after a caller told dispatchers two women were unconscious inside a home.
Upon arrival, they found two women with gunshot wounds.
One was pronounced dead at the scene, another was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Resident Francisco Muñoz says crime in the neighborhood is nothing new.
“My neighbor told me the other day there was a guy sleeping on my porch and he called the cops and stuff like that and they found some drugs on him,” Muñoz said.
The father of young children is concerned for the youth who live here.
“I want more police around in this area. I really do. I have kids, neighbors have kids,” he said.
“Every day, mornings, when these kids go to school, even when they’re coming home, keep a lookout on them,” Harmon said.
Shootings, drug activity and reckless driving are all things these residents want to see gone from their neighborhood.
The Fort Wayne Police Department says they’re still investigating and talking to witnesses.
They say they have no suspect information at this time.
