FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Final touches are being made as the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is getting ready to open for its 55th season.

This year, two new exhibits are finally open after a few years of construction.

The new and improved monkey island is now open to welcome visitors as they walk through the gates.

The otters also have a new expanded exhibit that really lets you see them in their natural habitat.

There's even a machine that throws treats!

"We love improving things, making things better. We also love finishing projects, cleaning up messes, getting our animals back out there with the guests and opening the zoo," said Zoo Director Jim Anderson.

The zoo opens for the season Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

After Memorial Day, the zoo will have extended hours.
