FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - The Fort Wayne Police Department received a generous donation for some of their K9 officers.

Local residents and employees of the Dupont Veterinary Clinic raised money to buy vests for 4 of the department's K9 officers. The fundraiser began back in January of this year and ended in March.

The $4,000 raised was enough to purchase vests that were both bullet proof and stab proof. Ish-kra's handler, Officer Matt Harmeyer, says with how often his dog is deployed, the vest could be potentially life-saving.

Donations also came in from outside of Fort Wayne, including places as far away as Pennsylvania and Florida.
