FORT WAYNE, Ind.(WFFT) -- The Fort Wayne Police Department stopping an officer's salary while he stands accused of strangling his wife.
The Department first put Sgt. Boyce Ballinger on administrative leave after he was arrested for domestic battery and strangulation in October.
Fort Wayne Public Safety board members reaching a unanimous agreement on Chief Steve Reed's petition to keep Ballinger unpaid on Thursday.
"We take this seriously and take appropriate action," says Reed.
Court documents say Ballinger and his wife were arguing after a party on Oct. 17.
His wife asked him how much he'd had to drink.
Documents say the officer 'charged' Heather Ballinger, placing his hands around her neck and pushing her against a wall.
A lawyer was not at the public board meeting but a board member says they did not have any objection over the petition from police.
