FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Fort Wayne Police Captain, Mitch McKinney, got the crowd going Monday afternoon at the local Public Service Academy.
Community and church leaders exchanged smiles and handshakes for the Department’s “Protecting Places of Worship” class.
The class provides communication and awareness tips to decrease violence in churches and other large gathering sites in light of recent attacks on such places across the country.
McKinney says, “For us, it’s situational awareness. If someone walks into your facility that you’re not familiar with...greet them.”
McKinney aimed to break down barriers between the audience members, one of the main lessons to hopefully eradicate violence if used the skills are used on a daily basis.
The skills will hopefully change community relationships on a local level, and further into each audience member's respective professions.
