FWPD investigates shooting on Gaywood Drive

On May 25, 2018 shortly before 2:30 am, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4800 Block of Gaywood Drive in reference to reports of multiple gunshots being fired.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- The Allen County Coroner has identified the victim who died in the hospital after Friday morning's shooting as Dominik Alaijuon Files, 28, of Fort Wayne.

Files died from multiple gunshot wounds in the 4800 block of Gaywood Drive. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Files is the 18th homicide of 2018.

The other two men who were shot were identified as Allen Ruffin, 29, Deviontre Marcel, 21. Both of those men are still in serious condition. 


The critically injured victim in this morning’s shooting has passed away. The Coroner’s office will be releasing his name later.

Names of the other two victims will be released when appropriate to do so.

No additional information is available to pass along in this investigation at this time.


On May 25, 2018 shortly before 2:30 am, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4800 Block of Gaywood Drive in reference to reports of multiple gunshots being fired. Officers were also advised that witnesses were advising that they saw multiple indiviudals running in the area as the shots were being fired.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was provided medical attention by paramedics and transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Officers were then advised that 2 additional victims, both adult males had been taken to local hospitals by citizen transportation. 1 victim was listed in serious condition and the other victim had been listed in critical condition both suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers on scene had located at least 2 homes and 2 vehicles that had been struck by bullets during this incident. Officers were also able to locate several weapons (handguns and assault style rifle)on the ground in the area of the incident as well. Due to the time of day Officers attempted to make contact with all occupants in the homes in the immediate area of the incident to confirm their safety due to the reports of multiple shots being heard and houses being struck by bullets.

Detectives from the Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Division as well as Crime Scene Technicians were called to the scene. Upon their arrival Detectives began to canvas the area around the incident to speak with any witnesses having information regarding this incident. Crime Scene Technicians began to process the scene for evidence as well as gathering the multiple shell casings that had been located in and around the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and Allen County Prosecutors Office.

Assisting Agencies included the Fort Wayne Fire Department and the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.

It should also be noted that during this investigation Gaywood was closed between Maple Grove and Pettit for all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
