FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — An early morning high-speed chase ended in a deadly crash and the evacuation of some homeowners on the city's southeast side, according to Fort Wayne police.
On Thursday at 12:23 a.m. officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 2505 Hoevelwood Drive for a reported disturbance involving an allegedly drunk man.
Officers say when they arrived at the scene and tried to get in contact with the man witnesses said was involved.
He was reportedly sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and ignored police.
FWPD says when officers tried to stop the driver he refused and took off in the car starting a chase.
The driver drove west down Paulding Road and continued to elude officers while driving fast.
Officers say they lost sight of the suspect's vehicle in the area of Paulding Road and Hanna Street then shortly after they found a vehicle that crashed in the 200 block of East Paulding Road.
The driver left the road, struck a light pole, a tree, a house and a gasline.
There were three people total who were inside the vehicle and paramedics pronounced them all dead at the scene.
Because the gas line was hit, several residents in the 200 block of East Paulding had to evacuate from their homes.
The identities of the victims will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office at a later date.
