On Friday, February 2, 2018 the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified that the Fort Wayne Fire Department was involved in fighting a house fire located in the 1200 block of Huestis Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
While battling the fire a deceased individual was located inside. The Coroner’s Office was requested on scene. A second deceased individual was located inside the home.
Autopsies have been completed on both individuals. Positive identification and notification has been made to the next of kin for Nancy R. Gaff, female white 68 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Cause of Death has been determined to be Smoke Inhalation; the Manner of Death is Accident.
The second deceased individual has not been positively identified and due to the condition ofthe remains DNA testing will be used to assist in making the positive identification. The Cause of Death has been determined to be Smoke Inhalation and Thermal Burns; the Manner of Death is Accident.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Fire Department and the AllenCounty Coroner’s Office.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- The Fort Wayne fire department is investigating a fire that damaged a home on Fairfield Avenue.
It happened just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. A passing driver saw smoke coming from the house at 4825 Fairfield Avenue and called 911.
When they arrived, crews found smoke and flames coming from the back of the two story house.
There were no people inside at the time of the fire. Crews had the fire under control in about 16 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
