NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WFFT) - "It definitely helped me know who I needed to contact. It helped get a foot in the door and my name out there."
That's how Andrea Martin how the East Allen County Schools job information fair has helped her.
Two years ago she attended the job fair after running child care out of her home for 12 years. It helped her do something she always wanted to do.
"Once my youngest daughter went to school, I finished my education at then IPFW," Martin said. "I've always known I wanted to be a Special Ed teacher ever since I went to Leo and helped with the Special Olympics back when I was in high school."
East Allen is bringing their job information fair back on March 18th.
Human Resources Director Tina Grady says they have a number of jobs to fill and some of them will start to be filled by the end of the month.
"Bus drivers, teachers, secretaries, para-professionals, substitutes for custodians. We look for everything across the organizations," Grady said.
The job fair has been a success both for the district and those seeking jobs. East Allen has hired about 25% of attendees in the past, including Martin.
Grady says for some of the available positions, you don't need to be a perfect candidate.
Grady said, "I think that is one of the best things for us. If we can get somebody who can come in and has some of those qualifications and we can train them in-house to be more in-line with our process and our procedures."
Martin says if you're looking for a job, EACS may be for you.
"It's just a great place to work and really better the needs and lives of our students."
