Do It Best was officially named the anchor tenant of the project Thursday afternoon at the Electric Works' West Campus.
“Being at Electric Works will help us be an employer of first choice, retaining and attracting top multi-generational talent not only from here in Fort Wayne, but also on a broader scale,” said Do it Best Corp. President and CEO Dan Starr. “It enables us to keep our roots in the community we’ve called home for 75 years, while at the same time positioning us for a bright future."
Governor Eric Holcomb, Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger and Mayor Tom Henry were joined by other local, regional and state leaders Thursday for the announcement.
Developers R.T.M. Ventures has nearly $62 million in funding for the project.
Allen County Commissioners voted 3-2 earlier this week to approve a third extension for the project which will have a deadline of April 30.
New Haven Mayor Steve McMichael released the following statement about the announcement made by Electric Works regarding Do it Best Corp. in New Haven:
“While I am saddened by the news that Do it Best, a great corporate resident of New Haven since 1948, is moving to Electric Works, I am optimistic about the future of the entire Fort Wayne Region of which New Haven is proud to be a big part of. Electric Works is a transformative project for all of Northeast Indiana and the benefits of the project will expand across all of Allen County and Northeast Indiana.”
Construction at Electric Works is expected to begin this summer.
The project is estimated to create nearly 2,000 jobs during the two-year construction phase.
Fort Wayne-based Weigand Construction will be the general contractor, and Fort Wayne-based Bona Vita Architecture will lead the design of the new Do it Best headquarters at Electric Works.
