FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — An early morning crash in Fort Wayne has left one driver dead and another injured, according to police.
Shortly after midnight officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and Engle Road.
Investigators say the driver of the first vehicle involved, identified as a man, was traveling west on Jefferson Boulevard and possibly ran a red light at the Engle Road intersection.
Because of this, the driver collided with a vehicle that was traveling south on Engle Road.
The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 62-year-old Lisa Marie Ellert of Fort Wayne, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The Allen County Coroner's Office determined Ellert's cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries due to motor vehicle crash and the manner of death is an accident.
The other driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Police believe that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in this crash.
FWPD says a blood draw and toxicology analysis will be performed on the driver who went to of the accident, which is required for all fatal crashes.
Ellert is the 16th fatal motor vehicle crash in Allen County for 2021.
This crash remains under investigation by the authorities in Allen County.
