"Costco members and guests must wear a mask or face covering that covers their mouth and nose, at all times while at Costco," the company said in a statement.
The requirement does not apply to children under the age of two or to people who can't wear a mask due to a medical condition.
"The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation," Costco said.
In addition to the face mask requirement, Costco says that it will adjust some of its operating hours.
Also starting May 4, most Costco locations and gas stations will return to their regular hours.
The hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday through Friday will be reserved for people age 60 and older, and those with disabilities.
Costco is still allowing priority access for health care workers and first responders who come with their Costco membership card and official identification for their position.
