HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WFFT) — A construction worker in southwest Huntington County has been identified after a fatal incident Tuesday morning.
First responders in Huntington County were called to the area of State Road 105 at the Salamonie Lake Bridge in Polk Township at around 7:22 a.m. Tuesday after scaffolding collapsed.
Emergency personnel arrived and were directed to the water where the man was spotted entering.
The Huntington County coroner identified the victim as 61-year-old Brian C. Fights of Berne.
Authorities said Fights was wearing a required harness but was not tethered at the time of the incident.
Indiana Department of Natural Resource Law Enforcement Division as well as their dive team arrived and recovered Fights in about 39 feet of water.
The coroner has determined Fights' cause of death to be a result of asphyxia, due to drowning.
His manner of death has been ruled an accident.
This incident remains under investigation.
