FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - The Fort Wayne Police Department said 24-year old Jamie Marsee drove to the OmniSource scrap metal dealer on E. Pontiac St. where her husband worked and demanded he give her their child's carseat out of his car.
Her husband, then 24-year old Austin Harrison was later seen by a witness chasing Marsee before capturing her in a bear hug.
FWPD's Sergeant Sofia Rosales-Scatena says, "The argument was over the retrieval of a carseat. There had been some family problems at home which bled over into the workplace.”
Family problems brewed into a heated disagreement between the married couple, leaving Harrison dead and Marsee in jail.
The Allen County Coroner's Office identified Harrison as the man who was killed Thursday afternoon outside the Omnisource factory in southeast Fort Wayne.
Police originally said Marsee struck and killed Harrison with her vehicle, but the victim actually died of stab wounds.
A police affidavit says when the witness tried to separate the couple after Harrison put Marsee in a bear hug, Harrison eventually "put his hand over his own blood-stained shirt before dropping to his knees and collapsing."
Rosales-Scatena says, “The coroner’s report shows that he had some type of injury to the chest. Some type of fish-fileting knife.”
Marsee told police she and Harrison struggled over the knife and he ultimately stabbed himself when she released it.
But investigators say Marsee told another witness, "Oh my God, I think I killed Austin."
Police say they initially believed Harrison was hit by a car because of the way he was positioned upon their arrival.
Rosales-Scatena says, “That was our initial call. Probably just the way he fell and the way Marsee had taken off from the scene led people to believe that she’d possibly hit him with the vehicle. Turns out none of that was true. It was strictly just the stabbing that caused the death.”
Jamie Marsee is now in Allen County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery and battery with a deadly weapon.
