FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Allen County Coroner's Office identified the man who was shot at an apartment complex in Fort Wayne and later died at the hospital. Police also arrested a suspect in connection to the shooting.
Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at the Villages of Hanna apartments in the 2100 block of Eden Street just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers found an apartment window that was shot out and a damaged vehicle.
Investigators say they also found a fresh blood trail that lead away from the apartment complex but they didn't find a victim.
Police say they were still processing the scene a short time later when a gunshot victim arrived at a local hospital in a private car.
He was initially listed in critical condition but later died.
The corner identified the victim as 19-year-old Gery Allen Rucker of Fort Wayne.
Rucker's cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is homicide.
Homicide detectives arrested 25-year-old Derrick D. Dennis II in connection to his shooting death early Wednesday morning.
Dennis is facing a preliminary felony charge of murder.
Rucker is the 28th homicide in Allen County for 2021.
This shooting remains under investigation by authorities in Allen County.
