FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the woman who was hit by a car while crossing a road on the Pufferbelly Trail Thursday evening.
Allen County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to 425 Carroll Rd. just after 6:30 p.m. for a reported crash with injuries.
Deputies say a driver told them he had slowed down on Carroll Road so the woman could cross the street.
That's when they say a car went around the first vehicle and hit the woman as she was crossing Carroll.
ACSD says the driver of the car told deputies he thought the first vehicle had broken down, which is why he drove around.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:57 p.m.
She was identified as 63-year-old Leisa Elser-Patrick of Fort Wayne.
The coroner ruled her cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries due to pedestrian versus motor vehicle crash, and the manner of death is an accident.
Elser-Patrick is the 35th traffic fatality for Allen County in 2021.
This crash remains under investigation by authorities in Allen County.
