COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WFFT) — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred Thursday night near Columbia City.
At 9:01 p.m. responders were dispatched to the intersection of 600 S and Old 102 near Columbia City for an ORV accident involving injury.
Upon arrival, responders said they located 61-year-old Kenneth Stroud, of Columbia City unresponsive in the roadway near a 2019 Polaris Sportsman 570 that was rolled on its side.
Officers said Stroud was treated on the scene by medical personnel, then flown to Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was pronounced dead at 1:39 a.m. Friday .
Investigators say Stroud was driving recklessly in the intersection and lost control, resulting in his ORV ejecting him and then rolling over on top of him.
He was not wearing a helmet or protective riding gear at the time of the accident.
