FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Officials with the Baer Field Motorsports Park said they'll be closing by the end of the year unless someone is willing to pay the price tag.
"It's a shame what's happening," Dave Muzillo said.
The Baer Field Motorsports Park located near the Fort Wayne International Airport is closing.
Promoter Dave Muzzillo said they were told by the owners of the property that their lease will not be renewed and the property will be up for sale.
It's not only a sad day for him, but those who grew up coming here and working here.
"I had a lot of fun working here. I met a lot of different people. All the workers here were awesome. It was a blast to work with one big family," employee Ashley Newsbaum said.
It's also where some people got their start.
"People like Dale Earnhart Sr. raced here, Rusty Wallace, Kenny Wallace. All the big names in NASCAR has turned a lap here at one time or another. There's so much history in racing here and moved on to the bigger leagues too," Muzillo explained.
The price could not be discussed because of legal matters.
"It'll be listed Jan. 1 with a real estate company, and that's where they can get their information," Muzillo said.
Baer Field Motorsports Park will have one more walk around the track for those who want to see it one last time on Dec. 31 from noon until 4 p.m.
