FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- This is the giraffe's first time being in the area where the zoo typically keeps the giraffes in.

No one knows how the giraffe was able to break free, but it broke through the cables in that location a little before noon on Monday.

This is the first giraffe at the zoo to ever do this.

The rest of the giraffes were secured in the exhibit, while it took a few hours to get the baby giraffe back to where it escaped.

People along Wells Street by the Nestle plant were able to see the giraffe in a gated parking lot of a business as they drove by.

A little after 2pm the Zoo was able to rescue the giraffe.

Zoo staff was on scene along with the Fort Wayne Police Department who was there for backup.
