AUBURN, Ind. (WFFT) — Police in DeKalb County say the man who is accused of sneaking in and trying to kidnap a woman at a local YMCA facility is in jail.
Just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers with the Auburn Police Department responded to the YMCA Early Learning Center on County Road 36A for a reported disturbance.
Police say 39-year-old Matthew A. Burritt climbed through a small window after YMCA staff members said he was not allowed to enter.
The woman who called 911 reported that Burritt tried to kidnap her, but she was able to break free and getaway.
Burritt was captured by APD at the scene but was able to escape briefly before being captured again after they used a stun gun on him.
Burritt was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was released on Thursday.
He was taken back into custody after being released from the hospital and is currently being held at the DeKalb County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Burritt is facing preliminary felony charges of burglary, kidnapping and escape.
