FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- The Allen County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was shot and killed early Friday morning on Fort Wayne's north side.
Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Ridgewood Drive near Parnell Avenue at 4:10 a.m. after a caller reported hearing about five gunshots.
While searching the area officers say they found a man who was shot several times.
The coroner identified the man as 25-year-old Justin Cedrick Dawson, from Fort Wayne.
Dawson was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The coroner ruled Dawson's cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is a homicide.
He is the 33rd homicide in Allen County for 2020.
That’s more than twice as many homicides compared to August 2019.
In all of 2019, there were a total of 30 homicides, and that’s despite the COVID-19 pandemic which slowed down the violence in the county for about two months.
