ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WFFT) — A woman is dead and a semi-truck driver is injured after a Friday afternoon highway collision in east Allen County.
At about 2:10 p.m. Friday, Allen County Police Officers responded to U.S. Highway 24, just west of the Bull Rapids Road intersection in Maumee Township for a crash involving a semi and a car.
Investigators say for unknown reasons the driver of the car, which was going eastbound on U.S. 24, crossed the center median and collided with the westbound semi head-on.
Police say the female driver was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi received minor injuries, according to police.
U.S. 24 westbound just after 4:30 p.m. eastbound U.S. 24 will be closed until at least 6 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
