FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- It’s the time of year Michelle Love always looks forward to.
“My favorite part of the fair is definitely interacting with the kids and the families,” she said. “It’s why I come out and do this year after year.”
Love has been on the Allen County Fairgrounds’ Board of Directors for 13 years.
She’s excited for the fair to open on Tuesday, and says this year is going to be special.
“Last year we didn’t get to have one so this year having fairgoers is even more important,” she Love said.
There’s some new events this year, like Wednesday night’s touch-a-truck event.
Love said kids can get an up-close view of different kinds of trucks, and even get in the driver’s seat of some.
On Saturday the fair will have a dinosaur show.
“It’s a dinosaur experience,” Love said. “It’s an animatronic dinosaur, kind of one part meet-and-greet, one part silly show.”
Of course the classic events will be back, like the hot air balloons and ice cream social on Thursday.
Love said the fair has something for everyone between the food, rides, games and shows.
“It’s all about the nostalgia,” she said. “I think you come back and you kind of just feel like you’re going back in time sometimes.”
She said she wants people to enjoy the fair just as much as she did growing up.
“I made so many great memories when I went to the fair and when I was a 4-H-er, and I love keeping that alive,” she said. “I want new families to have those same kind[s] of memories.”
