FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Accident or intentional? That’s what Fort Wayne police are trying to determine after a shooting Friday afternoon.
“Obviously there’s a difference between the malicious versus the accidental,” Sgt. Mark Bieker said.
Sgt. Bieker says officers responded to the 900 Block of High Street at 2:49 p.m.
A few houses down, Kate Cooper saw the action.
“Flashing lights, cops taking things out of the trunk,” Cooper said.
Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
“I seen 'em coming out on the stretcher he didn’t look very good. They put 'em in the ambulance and took off,” Resident Jerry Baumgardner said.
The 40-year-long resident has seen his fair share of crime.
“Well I don’t really know what went on but they’ve had some issues in the past with the police," Baumgardner said.
Cooper says it’s just another day.
“We live in the ‘08, baby. It happens. You hear sirens every day. You hear gunshots,” Cooper said.
Everyone in the home was brought to Police Headquarters for questioning.
“We transported people that were inside the residence just as witnesses. We’re trying to get an idea of what’s going on. At this point in time, our detectives are talking to everybody that’s in the house,” Sgt. Bieker said.
