FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- A local running team got their long-awaited celebration on Thursday.
Eight girls from the Three Rivers Racing team in Fort Wayne were honored by Mayor Tom Henry for their second-place finish at the Junior Olympics cross country event in December.
The team was only four points behind first place in the national competition.
Their coach, Josh Maple, says he is proud of how far they have come.
“It’s a really huge accomplishment,” he said. “This is one of the few times that anyone in this area has placed this high in any of the age groups. And they’re in a really competitive age group, that middle school age group.
In addition to the team runner-up finish, four athletes earned All-American status for finishing in the top 25.
