Through his service on the board the past two years, Callahan earned the trust of Ivy Tech Fort Wayne Chancellor Jerrilee Mosier.
This connection along with Callahan’s push to encourage students to pursue education beyond high school lead to his newly elected position.
“Jason Callahan will be an excellent leader of the Ivy Tech Fort Wayne Regional Board of Trustees,” says Mosier. “More and more of our work is partnering with area school corporations in developing and streamlining career pathways. His experience as superintendent of Wabash City Schools will assist us in continuing and expanding this work throughout the 11 counties of northeast Indiana.”
Callahan is motivated by recent changes in education across Indiana.
“The red for ed movement was really a culmination of people saying we want to make education the most important industry in the state,” Callahan said.
An area of focus for the Ivy Tech Fort Wayne Board of Trustees will be the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s 2030 vision.
The goal of the partnership is to have 60% of students with a credential beyond a high school diploma by the end of the decade.
“We want to expand as many opportunities for Ivy Tech across all eleven counties in the Northeast Indiana region and I think that’s what we are going to see,” Callahan said.
