MERCER COUNTY, Ohio (WFFT) -- UPDATE: As of 4:20, outages reported are down to 2,220 customers without power.
ORIGINAL: The Mercer County Sheriff's Office says strong winds in the area have created a major power outage for the county, resulting in thousands without power on New Year's Eve.
As of 4:15 pm, 8,531 customers, or 63% of the region, is without power.
The National Weather Service says gusts in the county are anywhere from 30-40 mph.
