FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — All eyes were towards the front of Haley Elementary School gym as officials opened up a time capsule to celebrate the school's 50th year.

Many of the items looked alien to students at Haley, ancient artifacts like VHS's, old Haley Elementary T-Shirts, and newspaper clippings from the past.

"The VHS, I'm thinking do we even have something to play that on?", said former Haley principal Brandon White.

School officials also wanted to make it clear that the celebration was not just about the capsule, but celebrating the life of J. Wilbur Haley and his family.

The Haley family was in attendance for the celebration, which spanned four generations.

"We're not just acknowledging the physical building but the name sake," says current principal Brian Howard.

Parents were also able to walk around to look at the school's most recent renovation.
