FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The 2020 BBQ RibFest is scaling down the event this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mark Chappuis with BBQ RibFest told FOX 55 that " the staff at BBQ RibFest is saddened to report that this year’s event has been scaled back significantly and will no longer include the national award-winning BBQ teams from around the country."
Instead, a smaller-scale gathering will still take place at Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne.
"Due to recent concerns and new developments concerning COVID-19 the event will be reduced from four days to two and hours of operation reduced significantly as well," Chappuis said. "After 22 years of delighting our BBQ loving fans with national award-winning BBQ and nationally acclaimed music we feel that eliminating the 'rib pit' and scaling back other vendors and hours of operation was unfortunately necessary."
"We know we’re all frustrated about all the canceled events this summer, and we certainly tried awfully hard to make RibFest happen as usual, but we are very sad to announce that RibFest, as we’ve always known it to be just, won’t be happening this year," organizers said in a post on Facebook.
The concerts featuring Thunderstruck Americas AC/DC and Rumours ATL, a Fleetwood Mac Tribute are still scheduled to perform Friday, July 31 and Saturday, Aug.1 respectively along with opening acts at Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne.
Food, beer, wine, and other refreshments will be available both nights.
Doors will open both days starting at 6 p.m. and facemasks will be required for entry.
Officials said tickets and other information will be available in the coming days.
