NAPPANEE, Ind. (WFFT ) — At approximately 1:45 p.m. Kosciusko County emergency responders dispatched to the area of 5300 W County Road 1350 North regarding two children that were possibly hit by a truck Tuesday.

First responders located the children, ages 3 and 5, about 300 feet north of C.R. 1350 N Tuesday afternoon.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office said located near the children was a 1992 International semi-tractor, with an attached grain trailer.

Police say preliminary details of the investigation indicate that the semi driven by 26-year-old Benjamin T. Sheets of Nappanee began to pull forward after it was loaded with grain.

As the semi went into motion, the two children, who were presumably underneath the trailer, were struck, investigators believe.

The children were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s office.

The crash is still under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
