FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - The goal is for Southeast Fights COVID-19 to provide more than 10,000 masks free of charge to those in need.
"Now we have over 100 churches and organizations that are connected to this effort. We have people in Columbia City. We have people in Ligonier, we have people in Harlan. We have people in Huntertown. There are people all over helping this initiative," Pastor Melissa Fisher of Faith United Methodist Church said.
Southeast Fights COVID-19 Response and the local chapter of The NAACP is helping to set up locations to distribute fabric for pick up and drop-off.
This will be starting Wednesday Joshua's Temple Missionary Baptist Church (4202 Hessen Cassel Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46806) and Come As You Are Community Church (7910 S Anthony Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46816) .
"I think working together across religions, across income, and partnering with like minded people that feel like we all need to be safe is a way we can really see some results," Sheila Curry Campbell, president of the NAACP said.
In late March, church members, pastors, and community leaders provided Parkview with more that 2,000 masks.
They believe they can do it again with more hands this time.
"Love and hope is shining through right now in the workers and the people committed to protecting workers and essential workers and our community so I want to thank everyone and anyone who donates a sheet or spool of ribbon," Fisher said.
