FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — One person is dead after falling into the St. Marys River Sunday evening.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of a person who fell into the river at Fairfield and Gerke avenues just before 8 p.m. Sunday.
FWFD said they arrived at the scene within five minutes and started water rescue operations.
Crews said they launched a raft into the river and were able to find and remove the victim in 12 minutes.
Medics at the scene transported the victim to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to firefighters.
At this time is unclear how the victim fell into the water.
This incident remains under investigation.
