VENEDOCIA, Ohio (WFFT) — Deputies in Van Wert County are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning with a man arrested for his alleged role.
Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach said his office received a 911 call at 12:57 a.m. Saturday regarding someone who was shot at a home in Venedocia.
Riggenbach said when deputies arrived they found a man in the yard beside the home who was shot.
Deputies said people at the scene were performing CPR on the man who was unconscious and not breathing until they arrived.
The victim was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff identified the victim as 19-year-old George McLaurine of Lima.
Investigators identified and arrested a suspect identified as of 23-year-old Trey M. Jones of Spencerville.
Deputies said Jones is charged with one felony count of Reckless Homicide.
Jones was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility where he is being held pending an initial court appearance.
Riggenbach said this shooting remains under investigation.
