FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Meal prepping started out as a lifestyle change for Terel Lynn and Joanna Hersey.
The couple found cooking difficult with a busy schedule.
"We would cook our meals for the week so that we didn't have to do that because we were finding out that it was taking up so much time with all the extracurricular activities and going to the gym, we weren't eating until well after 7 o'clock." Lynn said.
Their change inspired others, which in turn inspired them to create Smile More Meal Prep.
Orders are placed online, and then delivered every Sunday.
People from all walks of life are buying in to their program.
"So far we've had people, we've had girls who've had babies so their siblings have purchased meals for them for about eight weeks," Lynn said. "We had a lady who had Alzheimer's. So her daughter, instead of making food for her, just bought on to the program and we deliver the food."
The menu for the perfectly portioned meals rotates every three weeks to add some variety.
Both Lynn and Hersey say it's helping them get creative in the kitchen.
"We get to actually experiment and get in the kitchen and say, I've never tried this," Lynn said. "And now, I have customers that rave about my pulled pork and little do they know that was my first time making pulled pork when I started this business and we've just kind of been able to master those."
Currently Smile More Meal Prep has about 35 to 40 customers a week.
And they say they're serving up more than just a nutritious meal to those who are eating them.
"This is going to sound so cliche, but it's like yeah we're a food service but I feel like what we're really selling is like time," Hersey said. "You know, it's like saving you from having to like cook in the kitchen. Like don't worry about who's cooking. Leave that to us."
