It can happen to all of us: You're overwhelmed with the kids' activities and have to be in three places at once!
Fort Wayne now has a new ride-sharing service- Indiana Family Transit- that is a safe and local alternative to the big guys.
Foster parent Shandreka Gray says you can't be in more than one place at the same time.
That's why she started Indiana Family Transit this year.
"I originally started it to help with foster parents, like myself, who need help with transporting their foster children to visits or extracurricular activities. But then I wanted to expand it to help other people," Gray says.
Now, her and her six-seat van can help with nearly any situation.
"I help out parents who need their children picked up and dropped off from school every week. And also people who work jobs that can't drive for whatever reason. Whether it's a suspended license, or a handicap or whatever reason, I transport them to and from work for a weekly rate," Gray says.
Indiana Family Transit covers all of Allen County and has weekly rates that rival other ride-sharing programs.
"The rates are, if you need me for a week, it's $45 a week. If you need picked up or dropped off to school for a week, taken to work for a week, it's $45 a week. For a one-way trip, it's $15, for a round trip is $26 to $30," Gray says.
It even has cheaper bundle packs for multiple kids or seats.
Gray says she's glad to offer the same kind of help she needed.
"The reason that I did start it was to help people, other foster parents, because you have a lot of doctor's appointments, counselling appointments, you just have a lot of different appointments. And a lot of times, if you have multiple children, you can't be in two places at once, and I always would wish I had help with transportation," Gray says.
