FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - There's a new location on the departure board at Fort Wayne International Airport.
Thursday American Airlines started daily flights to Philadelphia.
Fort Wayne resident Scott Swogger says it was a no brainer for his trip to Prague.
"Actually we selected this flight because it allows us a direct flight from Philly into Prague," Swogger said. "Greatest route. Great connections. Shortest flying times."
The addition of the flight means there are now twelve non-stop flights out of Fort Wayne for both leisure and business travelers.
Deputy Mayor Karl Bandemer says this is a big deal for the city because there's a growing number of people traveling here for business.
"We are extremely fortunate that those numbers continue to increase here in Fort Wayne and so it's a further indication of how well we're doing here economically," Bandemer said.
Brandon Greene with BAE Systems says they're excited because it means another option for them to travel back and forth here for business.
"Philly has flights, numerous flights to both Boston and Manchester, New Hampshire so having that additional option for us to get here, because sometimes it's not the easiest place to get to, so having that additional option is very important for timely travel for all of us," Greene said.
John Sampson with Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership says having more connections like the one to Philadelphia is important for continuing economic growth.
"We take flights going to Europe all the time," Sampson said. "Getting to a location where there are strong connections to other international locations is important."
No matter whether your travel is business or leisure, Swogger says you can't beat the convenience of being able to fly out of Fort Wayne.
"Anytime that we can leave from Fort Wayne it's always preferable to us so you don't have to make that drive to Indy or Chicago or Detroit or somewhere else," Swogger said.
The flights to Philadelphia will take place twice a day.
The airport is celebrating the new non-stop service with the chance to win tickets to a Colts vs. Eagles game. You can visit the airport's website for details.
