FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)-Construction on Dupont Road is starting to affect businesses that are nearby. Crews are digging a trail underneath Dupont Road between Lima and Coldwater Roads, and making the road wider.

"I think once it's done it'll be great. Dupont Road is a very busy road and I think this had to be done a couple years ago," said The Hair Department Owner Fernando Fernandez.

The closure on Dupont Road redirects about 25,000 vehicles a day to Union Chapel and Carroll Road to the North and Wallen Road to the South, if drivers follow the posted detour.

Although we weren't able to talk to anyone on camera, employees at Peerless Cleaners tell me that they've seen a slight decline in business because of the construction. People are taking longer to pick up their dry-cleaning.

However, it's not so bad for every business along Dupont.

"I think hair is a tremendous insensitive to go over traffic and snow and ice, and so they're not missing their hair appointments," said Fernandez.

Fernandez says when they heard about the construction, they alerted all of their customers on their Facebook page.

"We let our clients know a head of time what's going on and they made proper plans when they came over."

The closed areas on Dupont Road are expected to reopen at the end of August.
