UPDATE 04/17/2018 12:05 p.m.
On Monday, April 16, 2018, the Allen County Coroner’s office was notified of the death of the individual found at 1103 Sylvia Avenue, on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at approximately 06:52 hours. The victim sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital. The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin.
He has been positively identified as Darius Marcel Boone, male, black, 14 years of age, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of the Head and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Darius Marcel Boone is the 15th homicide victim in Allen County for 2018.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- Update:
Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman Michael Joyner tells WFFT that they have made an arrest in the shooting of two male children early Sunday morning on Chestnut Street. According to Joyner, "A 14-year old male has been arrested and charged with Criminal Recklessness. Apparently the three were playing around with a loaded firearm that discharged "one" time striking the two victims."
14 year old Devon Weaver has been charged with criminal recklessness as a juvenile.
The victims are 14 year old Darius Boone, who is listed as being in critical condition, and 9 year old Christopher Hatch, who is listed as being in fair condition.
Weaver was handling a handgun when it accidentally discharged striking Boone's head. The same round then struck Hatch in the leg.
Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 Block of Chestnut in reference to a report of a possible shooting Sunday morning just before 7:00am.
Upon officers arrival on scene they located 2 Juvenile male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Paramedics arrived on scene and began Emergency Care of the victims. The Victims were both transported to a local hospital.
The first victim was listed in serious condition and the second victim was listed in critical condition. The Victim's names will be released pending notification to family members.
Detectives from the Fort Wayne Police Department as well as Crime Scene Technicians were called to scene.
Upon their arrival Detectives began checking the area for any possible witnesses as well as speaking with any other occupants inside the residence at the time of the incident.
Crime Scene Technicians began processing the scene for any possible evidence associated with this incident as well as collecting it.
There is no suspect information available at this time.
